How I work
I work with individual clients, aged 18+, from my private practice in Chippenham. I can work with a variety of issues including, but not limited to: Relationship issues, Anxiety/stress, Depression/feeling low, Confidence/Self-esteem, Loss/Bereavement, Anger management and Trauma.
My Humanistic, Integrative approach is my own particular blend of the Person-Centred, Gestalt, Existential, and Psychosynthesis approaches. Well-founded, robust, and sensitive approaches all, they provide for me a good grounding in being able to fully hear and understand what may be going on for you.
My approach places you, as a unique individual, at the heart of our work together. This means we will work towards your good and, mostly, you control the direction and pace. Bring whatever you need to, however you need to, and I will stay with you to really try to hear and appreciate things from your point of view. Whilst hearing how any issues affect you, I will also be listening out for what lies beneath. At times I may ask questions or, perhaps, present patterns I notice. I am open to working creatively with dreams, imagination, and body-awareness, among other ways. However we might work, I will not pressure you to share more than you are ready at any one time. Assuming the safety of all, everything that passes between us will be confidential.
My belief is that through gently working this way: exploring, developing and strengthening our relationship as we go, you will increasingly find relief from distress…And perhaps come to recognise, accept, and develop your own power and resources to find and action your own way forward. For I am not the expert of you; you are. At times this may not feel a comfortable, or even welcome, idea to sit with and I always encourage you to let me know if this is the case. Sometimes the most life-changing insights come through the most uncomfortable of experiences.
I am qualified to Foundation Degree and Advanced Diploma level in Humanistic, Integrative counselling, studying through Wiltshire College/Bath Spa University.
Previous experience has also seen me working for some years with Cruse Bereavement Care. In this capacity, I worked face-to-face with individual clients and facilitated bereavement groups. I have also worked with Help Counselling in Trowbridge.
I am in my early 40’s; am married with 2 children, and live in a village in North Wiltshire.
My past incorporates huge variety in experiences, which have converged to draw me to counselling. Through my training, practicing, and these experiences, I have come to really believe in the power of what I describe. I aim to live and practice authentically and ethically.
I am a registered member (certificate number 201118) of the BACP – British Association of Counselling and Psychotherapy – and integrate their Ethical Framework into the way I live and practice. I am also fully-insured.
As well as indoor work, I also work outdoors in a woods nearby: see the ‘Wild Therapy’ tab at the top for more details.
